Ready... set...

The 12th month is here.  Really?  Hopefully, you were able to get a bit of time off this past weekend to be with friends and family or even just have some quiet time to yourself.  Now we launch into a month full of activities, responsibilities and perhaps even a little merriment.

 

Sequoia's activities calendar is packed with sporting events: girls and boys soccer matches continue throughout the month, and our girls basketball players hit the courts.  Next week, student athletes and their families will gather for Fall Sports Award Night.  Performing Arts events continue, culminating with two Winter Music Concerts featuring student singers and instrumentalists. The PTSA and ELAC have their final meetings of 2015 where members will report on the continuing efforts to strengthen our Sequoia community through class activities, fundraising, and outreach and support to those in need.

 

As for responsibilities, teachers will be providing the last bit of this semester's coursework, and students will be hunkering down to study for finals.  Let's do ourselves a favor and take a collective deep breath. We can help our kids by providing them with the time and a place to study, the opportunity to eat well and get enough sleep, and the knowledge that they are more important to us than the outcome of any one project or test result.

 

And for the merriment...

Many seniors are finishing up their college applications and getting ready to press "submit."  Good luck to you all; you deserve some celebration!  As the last day of school winds down, teachers will be treated to a PTSA/ELAC-sponsored holiday lunch at their staff meeting.  All parents are welcome to lend a hand and thank our teachers.

 

Sarah Kay, poet and founder of Project Voice said recently, "It's December and nobody asked if I was ready."  Boy, do I know how she feels. But there's no going back...so have a great month and I hope to see you around campus!
